FERRISBURGH — A 74-year-old man almost drowned after falling through the ice on Lake Champlain on Sunday.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. police responded to the scene in the area of Annex Road in Ferrisburgh.
Police say that Daniel Doyle, of Charlotte, was walking on a section of ice approximately 10-15 feet from shore.
The area of ice that Doyle was walking on broke away, resulting in him becoming partially submerged in open water.
Doyle was able to utilize an ice pick to pull himself from the water partially.
His cries attracted the attention of the residents of the area, and they came to his rescue.
The Vermont State Police would like to remind everyone that “no ice is safe ice” and to use caution while enjoying ice covered waterways.
