Construction flagger from Middlebury hit by car

MIDDLEBURY — A 33-year-old construction flagger from Middlebury was struck by a vehicle in Charlotte on Thursday.

Police say at approximately 11:27 a.m. Vermont State Police responded to Route 7 near Wildwood Way in Charlotte for a report of a construction zone flagger that had been hit by a car.

John Reya, 33, of Middlebury had been sideswiped by a passing vehicle while directing traffic in the construction zone.

Reya sustained minor cuts and abrasions but was not transported to the hospital, police say.

Reya is an employee of Kubricky Construction based out of Wilton, NY.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Everett Engles, 75, of Burlington.

Police say the case is still under investigation.
