VERGENNES — The all-volunteer non-profit organization, The Friends of the Vergennes Opera House, announced their 2015-2016 season, set to kick off with a free Community Concert on Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
“Time and again this community steps up to make the Vergennes Opera House come alive with music, dance, dramatic productions and more,” said FVOH president Gerianne Smart. “We are really pleased with this strong level of support but personally, I am not surprised. We have a committed and dedicated group of people in the Vergennes-wide community and it shows.”
September 25: Free community concert with O’hAnleigh Irish American Music: 7 pm. Let’s kick-off the season in style with family and friends and exceptional hand-clapping, toe-tapping music! Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Cash bar provided by Bar Antidote. Sponsored by Deb and John Emerson.
September 26: Ladies’ Car Rally, 9 a.m. send off from the Vergennes City Green for 100 mile tour of the Champlain Valley to benefit the Vergennes Opera House. September 26: Vermont Symphony Orchestra Made In Vermont Concert Series. 7:30 p.m. Tickets online vso.org or at Classic Stitching on Main Street in Vergennes. This is presented by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra as part of their state-wide fall tour.
October 8-11: Little City Players Present Neil Simon’s classic comedy “The Odd Couple”. 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday evening and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets available at the door. $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.
October 17: Downtown Bob Stannard and those Dangerous Bluesmen with Dwight & Nicole 7:30 p.m. Our official season opening event! A night of impassioned blues and soul. Cash bar provided by Bar Antidote.
November 7: Bluegrass Gospel Project, 7:30 p.m. Their beautiful voices and unforgettable melodies fill the historic Vergennes Opera House to the rafters. An evening of high acoustic achievement.
November 14: Charles Neville, 7:30 p.m. The second oldest of the well-known musical group The Neville Brothers brings his New Orlean’s-style sound, soul, talent and a four-piece band to the Vergennes Opera House. Cash bar provided by Bar Antidote.
December 11: Broadway Direct 10th Anniversary Holiday Show, 7:30 p.m. Local talent and Broadway veteran Bill Carmichael is joined on stage by his Broadway professional friends (as well as some local youth) and together they present a full evening of familiar show and holiday tunes. This is an annual favorite.
Saturday, March 4: Carnevale Vergennes, 7:30 p.m. An unforgettable evening featuring costumed attendees reminiscent of the Venetian Carnevale of the 17th Century. Silent and live auction, abundant grazing of food, cash bar and surprising and unexpected entertainment.
